The most frustrating thing is that my feet seem to pop out of these pedals way too easily often and occasionally I can't get it to release when I want to. Then, when I was doing a long climb last week my one shoe felt like the cleat was loose and was moving around, but actually the cleat was completely secure. They're junk. I went out my way to submit this review so that everyone is clear that these pedals are junk. I own two pairs of Candy C pedals from Crank Brothers and they, in stark contrast to these junky pedals, quite nice. When I first installed these pedals the left one was extraordinarilly sloppy. So sloppy in fact that it was difficult to unclip from the pedal. You could literally move the eggbeater part back and forth several millimeters. I returned it, got it back and now the left pedal just feels crummy all around. I can feel it moving around under my foot, and if you turn it with your hand it feels awful. Certainly not the precision engineering I had come to expect from Crank Brothers. No one should buy these pedals. I can't believe that Crank Brothers even puts their name on them. Go for the Candy C pedals on discount. Even at the lower price these MXR pedals are junk. Plus, you can find the Candys for about the same price. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

I have had the candy's, mallets, etc. The cage, spring, and bearings are NOT the same as the other crank brothers! You get what you pay for. The bearings are horribly rough, and a few months in had noticable play. The bearings have enough play from typical use to whine up climbs, and allow your feet to move up and off the pedal, and come back down by a few mm's. Once you get them past a short break in period they are fantastic.
I'm a big fan of simplicity, and these things are about as simple as a it gets. They shed mud like nothing else, if you break a spring claw, you can still clip in from three other angles.
These MXR's are a newer and cheaper version of the Chromolly models. I bought a set for my daughter, who only weighs like 62lbs. They're great for her, but I really couldn't comment on the quality of the material as yet. Time will tell.
As for getting them stuck on your crank arm; I don't know how you do that. They're threaded the same as any other pedal, and I take them off and on at regular intervals without a problem. All I can say is 'operator error' | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

If you already use Crank Bros, you know exactly how to use them. I have the Candys on my fixie now and got these for my SS MTB.
Initially they are a bit stiff, but then my Candys have been broken in already. I liked the small platform on the Candys, but have come to prefer the eggbeater pedal.
OK, they might be a slightly lesser quality pedal than the regular eggbeaters, but they work the same as my Candys and at 30% of the price of regular eggbeaters (here in Australia anyway, are worth it.

DON'T BUY THEM. They suck. When I wrote before and mentioned sone binding up, it actually turns out that I bent the axel. I weigh 180 pounds. Also, I was in a 8 hour endurance race, and when clipping in sonthing was going wrong. Turned out that somehow I broke one of the cages that holds my cleat inplace. And I have never struck them on any rocks. Your would actually be hard pressed to even find a roack on out local trails much bigger then a tennis ball. I also have mallot c's, which also are no good. I snapped the axel on one of them. And when that happened the peace that was still in my crank arm cought the pedal body and broke that too, so now I cant just buy a new axel the whole thing needs replacing. Warrenty you say? HA! I sent both pairs of pedals back. The egg beaters they wont doo anything for they say i hit a rock and won't take my work for it, and don't really care about my bent axel. As for the mallot c's? Well, since you cant use a pedal wrench with these, I couldn't get the non-drive side pedal out. My local shop tryed heating the arm with a torch, and put an allen key in a vice, but all that managed to do was bend and snap a few allen keys, not to mentions the giant bench vice broke too. And yes they were greese before installing, and no they wern't cross threaded, and yes we were turning them the right way, and it was only a month before we tryed taking them out that they were installed. SOOOOOO, I have to send my crank arm back with the pedals for warrenty. I have since bought new cranks knowing that the pedals would get replaced and i wouldn't get my crank arm back. WRONG! They warrenty department is trying somthing new this year. They are replacing all broken parts of the pedals and sending them back. Thats right, now I have a half new pedal mixxed with some old probly soon to break parts, and whats to say that it wasn't a bad batch of pedals, and that the other one os going to soon break one i start riding it again. And I can only ride it again if I some how magicly get it out of the crank arm. Which I doubt, since like I said before they don't have wrench flats for a pedal wrench. Apparently welding the wings and body together (instead of casting them into a single piece) saves $50. If the money is that big a deal to you, or if you just want to try the eggbeater style out without spending too much, then you should consider the MXR's. Be aware that you can find the fully cast C's (and even SL's) online for nearly the same price as the MXR's if you look hard enough. The platform axel on the MXR's is round and smooth (instead of a beaded, rounded square) which cause the pedals to squeak a bit during the down stroke. Still, within a year these will likely be available at closeout prices which will hopefully get more people to try them out. I myself have had great luck with them. Great value. My right pedal is binding up tight now, and the spring release system is jamming up. And to boot, they came black when I thought crome, and after the first ride they ended up being half crome.
