    Date Reviewed: August 26, 2008
    Favorite Trail:northshore,grapevine,tx
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $75.00
    Purchased At:blueskycycling
    Strengths:lightweight,strong
Weaknesses:wasn't tight when I was clipped in. My foot rattled around. Couldn't get out fast enough when I wan't to release.
    Similar Products Used:shimano m520
    Bike Setup:2006 gt idrive 4 5.0
Bottom Line:I know people who swear by this pedal. didn't work for me. Couldn't release fast enough. I almost went back to platforms before I tried the shimano's. Completely lost my confidence riding because I knew I couldn't get out fast enough if I had to. I do like the weight. They also seem to take a beating. Bought as a combo with shoes.

    Date Reviewed: August 25, 2008
    Favorite Trail:Eleanor Park
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $50.00
Strengths:Quick to clip in and release
    Weaknesses:Durability
    Similar Products Used:Shimano SPD
    Bike Setup:06 Cannondale Scalpel 1000
Bottom Line:Functionally, I love the pedals. They work perfect... until they break. I bent the right spindle and broke off a wing on the first set. I chalked it up to me being too rough and ordered another set (can't beat the price). The wings separated on the left side on the 2nd set to where I was completely unable to clip in. Luckily, I was able to replace it with my undamaged left pedal from set #1. Now a wing on the right pedal has developed a crack. Functionally, they are a great pedal. Just spring for the better material. I think the low bottom bracket of my scalpel doesn't help the situation.

    Favorite Trail:Porcypine Rim
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $99.00
    Purchased At:Sunlight Cycles
Strengths:Great design with nothing to adjust
Weaknesses:Poor production on the C version
    Similar Products Used:Original egg beater
    Bike Setup:575
Bottom Line:I loved the original design which lasted me for a long time, but when I decided to "upgrade" to a new pair I have had nothing but problems. The C version is sloppy; poor production tolerances. I have had the spring slip out on one pedal so the egg beater went flat and I have broken two pedals where the wing meets the body. I love the design and would like to stay with it, but I would suggest getting the stainless version or better.

The other thing I have disliked is how the pedal ate in to my shoe, but I noticed on their web site that they now have steel plates to go under the cleat to address this issue.

    Strengths:Lighter than the shimanos PD-520
    Weaknesses:None so far.
    Bike Setup:Epic Comp 07
Bottom Line:These pedals seem to be better at clipping than the shimanos; however, time will tell if they will outlast my old 520s. They just seem a little more delicate.

    Favorite Trail:Green Line 6
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $60.00
    Purchased At:Bike Tech
Strengths:Doesn't clog, a BIG plus for muddy western washington riding, 4 points of entry
Weaknesses:One of the wings snapped off after 3 months of use
    Similar Products Used:Shimano M520
Bike Setup:Giant Trance w/ Marzocchi MX Pro in front, Fox Float R in back, Hayes Mag XC hydros, Thompson Elite seatpost, Deore/LX drivetrain
Bottom Line:My Shimanos kept clogging with mud, so I switched to these and haven't had a problem with clogging since. I was disappointed when one of the wings broke off after only three months of use. I'm having them replaced under warranty right now, but thinking about upgrading to the SL model to avoid this problem in the future.

    Date Reviewed: June 24, 2008
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $28.00
    Purchased At:e-bay
    Strengths:Light, strong, incredibly functional.
Weaknesses:I could use a *little* more float. Not a whole lot, but maybe 2 or 3 more degrees.
Similar Products Used:SPD M515, M545 other SPD pedals
Bike Setup:Specialized M4 w/Old school Z.1 X-fly fork with Magura Julie hydros, LX/XT components throughout.
Bottom Line:I've been an MTB rider/racer for over a decade and I've yet to find a better pedal.

The best of the best USED to be the Time ATAC World Champion followed up by the XTR SPD's.

This has changed with the advent of the egg beater. The 'C' model is on the lower end of the quality spectrum for this line, but you wouldn't know it by riding them.

Amazing strength, VERY dependable and not at all easy to engage or release the cleat. I'd definitely recommend these to other riders.

Bottom Line:i love these pedals, they work extremely well. When i first got them i was planning on upgrading to the time attack peddals later on, not any more, egg beaters rock!

    Favorite Trail:Kanuga, Paris Mountain
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $55.00
    Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Durability, looks, COMPLETELY UN-CLOGGABLE, lots of float, engages from any side
Weaknesses:Unrideable without clipless shoes. I know that's the point but if you lose a cleat on the trail you're stuck. It's going to be an uncomfortable ride out, ESPECIALLY if you're climbing out.
    Similar Products Used:Platforms
Bike Setup:Jamis Dakar, eggbeaters, Thomson stem, Monkeylite bars, BB5's, Truvativ FireX
Bottom Line:Pedals have been awesome for me. All 4 wings are still on each pedal. I ride pretty rocky rooty trails 4 to 5 times a week and they've had their fair share of hard slams on rocks that I misjudged. Other people have had problems with durability but I really haven't had any issues. They haven't even ever clipped out on me when they hit stuff. Tight enough that they'll never let go while you're riding but lose enough to be easy on the knees and easy to get out of in a hurry if needed. Cleats seem to last. I've never had to replace the cleats or bolts. Granted I've only had them about 6 months but I ride nearly every day so they definitely get used.

Great pedals, weight isn't really an issue to me with pedals, they aren't noticeable they just do the job they're there for. LOVE EM!

Strengths:Ease of installation and use, strength
    Weaknesses:None discovered so far.

    Bike Setup:Motobecane phantom pro 29
Bottom Line:Cheap, great working pedals for entry level. Installation went smoothly (nothing to tune, just bolt them in) look great. I was a little bit afraid to strap myself to the bike (those are my first clipless pedals) but Egg beaters give you plenty of freedom so I actually didn't feel I'm clipped in at all. Also easy to take your foot our if there is a need for. I'm rather easy rider and so far did less than 100 miles with them but I'm very, very pleased with results. We'll see how they do over longer period of time.

Bottom Line:Excellent pedals. After having knee pain using Shimano and other SPDs I tried the Eggbeaters, I have no more knee pain due to the added float. Setup is super simple and takes mere minutes. Quality of the Crank Bros products has always impressed me and the eggbeaters do not disappoint. I have 3 sets of these pedals on all my bikes and will not use another pedal, PERIOD! They have stood the test of time and abuse by me (a 230lbs clydesdale) in rough XC trail riding. I even have the original set still going strong after a rebuild kit (which is also cheap and easy to do) since 2003.

Bottom Line:I have used and raced these pedals for almost t20 years, and they are fabulous. On occassion take them apart and regrease them. It's so damn simple.
I busted mine landing on a rock the other week, took them off, and had them replaced under warranty with NO hassle. But make sure you call first before you send them away. You need some sort of # for the warehouse.
I am very happy with these pedals.

Pretty easy to clip in and out of ... also, there is never any question about whether you are clipped in (unlike some other pedals)
Weaknesses:A little higher friction than I would like on a pedal.
My friends say they break easily, but I've abused mine pretty badly and they have held up OK so far.

Weaknesses:Weak wing. Broke with less than 400 miles.
Similar Products Used:Ritchie, look, shimano, wellgo
    Bike Setup:Intense tracer
Bottom Line:Wing broke with little use. I don't recall hitting a rock or anything particularly hard. I just noticed that suddenly there was one less wing on the pedal. Unless you are doing very casual riding, look elsewhere or further up Crank Brother's line. I guess you get what you pay for.

    Date Reviewed: December 27, 2006
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $55.00
    Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:light weight, cheap, easy to use, look cool cleats are shallow (dont contact ground) which makes walking in riding shoes less awkward
Weaknesses:the eggbeater "C" or chrome is a decent pedal but the wings are weak. i have smashed them into rocks twice whilst cranking, rendering the pedal useless both times. to their credit, Crank Brothers has repaired them for free. I'm upgrading to the "SL" or stainless models that my buds have for a little more strength.
Similar Products Used:good ole toe straps; remember those? Wellgo Ti SPD, Richie Logic SPD.
    Bike Setup:'01 Enduro trailbike.
Bottom Line:The eggbeater is a great design. just do yourself a favor if you're hard on equipment; but the SL model. otherwise i recommend these to any rider
