Strengths:strong, relatively light, easy to convert the hub to almost every axle configuration under the sun, easy to maintain
    Weaknesses:kinda pricey
    Similar Products Used:shimano xt
Bottom Line:yeah, they are loud, but they quiet down a bit after breaking in. i like the loud hub, kind of a warning to other trail users. it beats using a bell. and, (i find) contrary to other reviews, it actually is easy to service. no bolts or nuts holding it together, just o-rings. pull the end cap off with pliers, pull the freehub off, lube, and push back together. effortless.

Bottom Line:Ridden Hope rear hubs 3 yrs now. Broke two Bulbs(ratchet)
and now have the warranty-replacement Pro-II laced up.
I break alot of rear hubs being over 200lbs, and they are the one bike part most likely to fail under larger and agressive riders. This pro2 rear hub is loud and works
ok so far. None of the weird pops yet that signaled the failure of ratchet pawls or teeth. I will initially rate it a 3+ and upgrade if it lasts under pressure for 500 miles.

Strengths:Strong, Light, looks good, choice of colours, choice of spoke hole drillings, flexability, availability of spares.
Weaknesses:LACK OF TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS / SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS FROM HOPE - PAY ATTENTION HOPE! Noisey. Aluminium cassette hub is very weak - hope should offer steel cassette hub as standard. WOuld be nice to see a tool kit with all necessary bushes and tools for complete bearing replacement of ProII hubs.

Bottom Line:I have a front hub (set up for 20mm axel), a rear hub (with a steel cassette body upgrade, and a rear single-speed/trials hub. And really this is three reviews in one.

The SS/trials is (IMO) the best product hope have ever produced. The zero-dish and wide flanges make for light, yet near indestructable wheels (especially with 36 spokes). The shorter cassette hub body means that you can run 5 sprockets (8-speed style) out back if you want gears (who wants 8/9/10 out back anyways!) and the shorter cassette hub body means it it lighter too! Steel cassette hub body as standard for durability and five sets of bearings mean that the hub is very strong and super-smooth! Pickups are 48 per rotation (which is practically instantanious) and the buzz makes the

The standard MTB rear is noisier due to the four pawls engaging simeltaneously and needs re-greasing every 3 months or so to keep it quiet(ish). But this is a super-easy job. These need to be supplied with a steel cassette hub body as standard as the aluminium one is just cheese with even aluminium-carrier cassettes! Upgrade via your local Hope stockist ASAP. (NB: Halfords is s hope stockist.)

The front hub is apparrently simple to convert, but I would like to see a bolt-up option with it like the rear hubs, although preferablly with an entire 10mm axel for rigidity rather than just the bolts that are used with rears.

In conclusion, EXCELLENT hubs with some minor flaws that Hope could easily sort. RECOMENDED.

Bike Setup:'07 Fuel EX 7 on Pro2/Stan's Olympic rim wheelset. Running various non-tubless Kenda tires
Bottom Line:The Hubs are great. Smooth rolling. Never had a quick engaging hub until this one and it's awesome. Loud but not annoying. Everyone says the same so I don't understand why that guy would be disappointed that they were loud. If he doesn't like loud hubs than these aren't for him obviously. Servicing is easy once you RTFM (Google it if you don't know what I'm talking about). The only pain was taking off the cassette when servicing. Since the Body is aluminum, the cassette will bite into it so it get's a bit stuck. You gotta wiggle it a bit to get it out. It's easy once you get the hang of it. Take out the Cassette lock ring, put back the skewer tight on the hub to hold it all together, fight off the cassette, then take out the skewer and everything will come apart by hand. It really is great.

Bottom Line:Hope Pro 2 are lighter but worse design than Bulb. I've pulled mine apart 3 or 4 times after first few rides to add grease to quiet them. But the grease or Phil's Tenacious Oil quiets down for a couple rides but lighter grease or P’s T oil pushes past the weak seal.

They are poorly designed for maintenance, similar to Bulb but not designed to easily take apart for needed yearly maintenance.

I've wasted the original seal and bought 2 more. And will try very thick axle grease to quiet to reasonable noise.

Waste of money and time building the wheel unless you really want obnoxious hub noise.

POSITIVE engagement. easy to convert from thru axle, 20 mil, bolt on, quick release with a inexpensive kit from hope.avail in straight pull, 32 and 36 hole. Bottom Line:The trials guys is not imagining things - my rear hub also exploded shortly after I bought it. I was climbing a short, steep incline and the hub body cracked almost completely in half. Hope replaced it, said it was probably some sort of defect, and built me a new wheel, including the purchase of all parts and the expense of getting it built.

I wanted to wait for a while before posting this. My replacement hub has been great, no problems at all. So I'm putting it down to bad luck with the first year of a new product, and the company took care of it. I may have also had the cassette on too tight, because I was noticed how light the recommended torque was once I started using the torque wrench.

Weaknesses:there are not that many ratchet points like on some hubs that are on the market now but that doesn't really matter. this hub make up for that with super stout engagement instead as it engages all 4 pawls at once

Bottom Line:its a great hub that is just about that weight of kings (pair weight on both) and is about 1/3 the cost of them. these hubs are actually stronger than kings are with out the up grades to make a king tough and when you do the kings are then heavier.

its a win win for anyone how buys these hubs

note the guy who broke the hub shell that is possible but then again he is a trials rider and they are the only ones that are at the risk. also they have updated the SS/TR hub so that will no longer happen.

ive coverd about 3000 miles in the past year on my main set of wheels through xc training, while i cant comment on strength, i can tell you that these hubs just keep going and going, the bearings are still good as new (the rear has 5 sealed cartridge units, 3 supporting the axle and 2 supporting the freebody) thanks to the seals being impassable...

the freebody is -VERY- loud, although it does quieten down some after a while, personally i like it, you may not!

I was considering the Bulbs as I'm more of a downhiller but decided why pay the extra £10 when the Pro2 will work perfectly well for you anyway? My LBS told me the Bulbs are more a pure DH hub whilst the Pro2 has been designed around freeride. Although I've never ridden a Bulb, I doubt there will be any noticable extra reliability or strength. Go for a Pro2 - it will handle all you give it.
Now I'm waiting for my front Pro2 to arrive!
