$2300.00 | | Purchased At: | rented several times | | Strengths: | Plush travel, wants to go fast, very strong frame
will take loads of abuse | | Weaknesses: | Very heavy front end, and seemed very heavy overall. difficult to meneuver when going slowly. | | Similar Products Used: | norco shore, a line, specialized big hit | | Bike Setup: | stock | | Bottom Line: | A decent bike, very plush and smooth travel.
It seemed as if whenever i went off a jump or while riding that it was very front heavy. in midair, the nose always dropped. I am by no means an excellent rider, but i have never had a big problem landing jumps, until i rode this bike. It was also very heavy, and not very maneuverable while going slow. on the plus side, as soon as i pointed the bike down, it went fast, and stayed in control for the most part. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Bratislava, SLOVAKIA, EU Date Reviewed: June 15, 2008 | | Favoriate Trail: | Inovec-VelkaLehota | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Purchased At: | kaktusbike | | Strengths: | Heavy duty frame with great progressive travel, suitable for backcountry, singletrails, freeride and maybe also for downhill, suspension feels like there is no bottom, eats everything
Marzocchi 66 RCV feels pretty soft, rebound, preload and compression can be set in wide range, new quick release axle is dumbproof and very easy and fast to use, seems like i dont have any squeezing problems with it - kinda lucky
Components fit the riding style - heavy duty, but not very expansive, so you will not have to cry if something breaks
SunRims S-type aka MTX are pretty strong | | Weaknesses: | 15.5" frame (M size) comes with 300lb spring, which is suitable for +/- 60kg riders and not for huge drops
Hayes stroker trail brakes are sensitive when not braking hard, however when pushed to limit, they are difficult to control
MZ 66 makes some metal-2-metal noise in first 2-3 cm of travel,
Paint on frame is hard to clean from mud
Rear axle is not 12mm | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Stinky 07, Specialized Bighit sport, cannondale gemini 900, bighit FSR 1 07, bighit fsr 1 08.... | | Bike Setup: | default Kona Stinky 08, Deore LX short cage rear deraileur, Truvativ chainguide | | Bottom Line: | Great bike, which seems to be unbreakable, suits wide range of biking styles, pedaling is not easy, but possible, great to have fun on your favourite singletrail, drop offs, and even in some urban locations, bike setup is great performance/price
Downhill headtube angle makes it stable in high speeds, easy to turn in low speeds, simply, was hesitating to buy, but dont regret | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Kona Factory | | Strengths: | Strong Frame. Personally like the looks(thats really important) | | Weaknesses: | Weight, some crappy parts-brakes and suspension. Chain problems. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Coiler | | Bike Setup: | 2007 base stinky, 2007 rockshox totems, avid codes, chainguide (forget brand) | | Bottom Line: | I love my bike. It wasnt my first choice but i got a good deal on it, but still have been really pleased with it.
I did have some problems with it right away.
1. I could never get the brakes to stop sounding like a dying goose which got quite embarrassing. I like spending money on parts I can show off, and bought some avid codes(awesome for stopping my car).
2. BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAD- I could never get my chain to stay on during really bumpy ride(happened on my coiler as well). I bought a chain guide in the winter and haven't tried it out yet.
3. I out rode the suspension pretty quick. The drop off triple was good while doing the blues and blacks, but was holding me back on the double blacks now at whistler. I have replaced the fork with a totem.
Though I did have some problems they were not major, and the fork was mainly to make my bike look cooler. Overall I am pleased and would recommend this bike to anyone. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I picked up the '08 because I knew the frame would take a beating and the parts spec was 10x better than last year and the best I could find for the money. We'll see how it holds up after next year but so far so good. It's an entry level DH/FR bike but I'm not an entry level rider and it's still good to go. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
