    Purchased At:Came On bike
Strengths:Beefy, super strong. Paint holds up to the abuse. Worry free, bolt it on and thrash it!
Weaknesses:None, maybe a bit heavy, but you won't notice it when your big ring is still alive.

Bottom Line:Amazing bash guard. Anyone who says they bent it first day out is a douche bag and needs to learn how to ride. Buy this if you don't want to worry about hitting stuff. This WILL save your big ring, end of story.

Strengths:Strong... simple... fits... does it's job.
    Weaknesses:None.
    Bike Setup:Stuff n Puff
Bottom Line:This thing is built like a BMX street chainring. It's tough and simple. No frilly stuff of fancy machining that might undermine it's strength. It's built from thick aluminum and fits both my RF Prodigy cranks and Shimano XT cranks without problem.

I ride mostly XC stuff, but the trails in the area are rocky with lots of uphill ledges. Stuff that'll chew up the big ring fast. Since I don't use a big ring, I slapped this on and have been impressed with it's durability. There are many chips and scrapes, but nothing that will cause breakage or failure. And, of course, my chain and rings all stay in good shape too.

    Purchased At:Freewheel Cycle
Strengths:Does what is supposed to do. Easy to put on. Looks pretty cool too
Weaknesses:might be nice if it had some grip on it to help bring you over logs, but no biggy...that would probably jack up the price anyways. if you are worried about the weight, you probably wouldn't use this thing anyways, so that is not an issue
Similar Products Used:my poor race face chainring
    Bike Setup:does it matter?
Bottom Line:what can i say, this thing does it's job extremely well. I used to cringe at big rocks or walk my bike over them to spare my expensive chainring the damage. no more of that!!! the extra clearance you get is sweet and i don't have to live in fear of seeing teeth go flying. super easy to install. buy it, its cheap and does the job.

Weaknesses:None. And if you wine that it has a mass greater than that of a normal ring, and you find this a problem you do not deserve to be riding one.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $28.00
    Purchased At:LBS special order
Strengths:Extra ground clearance for going over... everything! Protects the rings you really use. Beefy, it must help keep the spider from flexing!
Weaknesses:Weight, if you're watching the lbs. But not really that bad if you're considering this type of product.
Similar Products Used:My bent big ring with 1/4 of the teeth half gone provided this function previously.
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher X-Caliber, XT crank, Blackspire "chuck" granny, Thudbuster post, everything else still stock.
Bottom Line:This product really works well at it's intended function. Word of warning... the 4 arm 104mm ring god does not fit on a Bontrager crank, only Shimano. All in all this component is a good addition if you are riding technical single track. I don't miss my big ring at all.

clearance -- takes place of big ring (which i don't use much anyway!)
    Laser-etched graphics and kewl stickers
easy installation, just remove bolts on ur spider, attach, then screw eveyrthin back in
Price -- only bout 32 in cdn dollars (i hav no clu what that is in american)
Weaknesses:non-rotatable, so only one side will end up gettin mashed
    kinda heavy

Bike Setup:sworks m2 frame, w/ XTR rear-d, XT brakes, SID-SL, mavic sup 517, easton stem, monkeybar, XT hubs, IRC tires
Bottom Line:The big ring is pretty useless and it get banged up at times too, so i don't miss it that much! protects, provides clearance, loox cool, north shore proven, pretty good for balancing!

Ask your local bike shop fer a deal, cuz the price most places sell if for is a tad expensiv... get it fer at least no GST (sales tax), or about 10 bux off!... depending on how well u kno ur bike shop buds!

    Favoriate Trail:dutch creek, durango
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:- clearance. the number one reason to get one. allows you to float over logs and rocks that fellow riders will be scraping over and slamming into.

    - strength. this ring (meant to replace the big ring, unlike the rock ring) is machined out of thick aluminum. bending it is probably not an option, your spider will likely bend before this does.

    - protection. missing chainring teeth will be a thing of the past.

    - sizes. the rings come in many difference sizes and bolt patterns, so you can likely find one that will fit whatever crank you happen to use.

    - misc. the laser-etched graphics and sticker rock!

    - ease of installation. the cutout for the crank arm is very wide. i've had a couple of other bash rings where i had to cut out/file down material so that the ring could fit on the cranks. not so w/ this one. also, the chainring bolt holes are beveled, ensuring a snug fit when tightened.

    - cost. about the same as a big ring, will last a lot longer.
Weaknesses:- the cutout means that you can only mount this in one direction, and rotating the ring is not possible.
Similar Products Used:threshold design bash ring
    robin coope custom ring
    Bike Setup:xc ride:

spooky pit boss w/ z1, hope disks and hubs, race face everything else (uses two chainrings).

    trials bike:

schwinn homegrown, maguras, c-dale rigid al fork, flats, rhyno/lx wheels, single 22T chainring w/ ring god bash ring.
Bottom Line:i'll never use a big ring again. unless you race, do a lot of fire road riding, or are super fit, how often do you really use the big ring? the advantages of using a bash ring far outweigh using a big ring, esp if you ride a lot of technical trails and aren't afraid of a little extra weight.

    Strengths:well, its, errr, strength
Weaknesses:it's a wee bit heavier than my old big ring, actually it is probably a wee bit heavier than a few of my old big rings
Similar Products Used:girvin rock ring, blackspire xc ring guard(you get to keep all 3 with this one)
    Bike Setup:trials/xc
Bottom Line:the blackspire ring god is fantastic for lots of reasons. i got mine in north van as partially a souvenier, partially a component. it increases your cround clearance by a few centimetres or so and you will never have trouble tuning your front derailleur again, as going between two chainrings is a fairly easy lifestyle for it. the rockring that i had used to be a little wobbly when i was balanced on it, but no more with the ring god. its thickness alone can attest to its strength. on the downside, i had to file off the opening a little bit to get it onto my cranks, but it was very minor and took little more than a minute.if you can find one, go for it. all the better if you can get it with a blackspire sticker(they are rather rockin themselves). if you just ride regular old xc, i would not go for one, either a rock ring or the xc ring from blackspire will do nicely, but if you are playing around with trials seriously at all, then it is a good idea to go for at least a ring god(although total trials guards where you onle get to keep the small ring are probably a better bet than the ring god as most of them have 'teeth' that will bite into logs and the sort). it is a great product from a great company, 5 flamin chillis from the jersey boy!

(and if you can get the canadian/us exchange rate by getting it in canada, it's mighty inexpensive too!)

    The Abyss
    Duration Product Used:
    6 months
    Strengths:
Saves your big ring from being trashed on logs and rocks, and looks cool while doing it.
    Weaknesses:
Loss of big ring, but if you need this product you probably don't use it that much anyways.
    Bike Setup:
giant fram with white industries crancs, bmx flats, azonic shorty stem, maitou fork and xt components.
Bottom Line:This simple product (a round peice of aluminum which replaces your big ring) has saved me a lot of money in big ring replacements. If you have problems grinding the teeth off your rings I would recomend this product to you. Its a cool product which gives the user much more confidence clearing logs and rocks.
