I rode in Tsali,NC where the lockout was required going up the mountain, it was very convenient. Going down at speeds over 30 MPH, this fork inspired confidence and was very steady. I'm not fast, but I quickly caught two other faster guys going downhill and heard them complaining about their bikes becoming unstable and they had to use the brakes. Talk about confidence. Nothing vague as you make mid-course corrections at velocity. It tracks true, soaks up the small stuff and big stuff equally as well. At about the 4 month mark the fork started leaking oil and kept getting worse. I sent it in and the seals are only warrented for 3 months. So after being without the fork for about a month I got it back to the tune of $75. As it turns out I have sent the fork in 3 times in about a year for the same price and loss of use for 3-4 weeks per. I find this unacceptable and have the fork as my back-up to my Marzocchi Bomber (if it ever needs servicing).

I have been using a Talas on the rear of my Iron Horse sinister for a while now and I loved it so much I had to get a Fox fork. Before switching to Fox I was a die-hard Rock Shox user. Their quailty has continued to decline in the last few years. I've had to rebuild every one I've had several times (Psylo XC, Judy TT, Reba). All my riding pals have switched to Fox and I agree with them. The ride is PLUSH! Zero oscillation/wobble on hard downhill braking with Avid disc, great dampning and rebound adjustments, no leakage from seals yet (some reviews complain about this but if you read the manuals for the forks it says a bit of seepage is normal) and great control in tight switchbacks. Just get one!!! | | Weaknesses: | None so far. | | Similar Products Used: | Psylo XC w/U turn, Judy, Reba, Marz. Z4 freeride, RST (total crap!) The fork's done in excess of 5000km, including the Cape Epic (900km in 8 days) and the TransBaviaans (230km in 24hours).
I've done very little real hard racing with the fork.My weight is 90kg and riding style semi aggresive. The fork is used at least 5 times a week from 1 hour rides to 8 hour rides. I usually ride in dusty, dry weather.
The fork has not been opened at all. Service is limited to cleaning the stanchions after every ride - wipe bottom to top - and cleaning under the dust wipers once every six months. I started storing the shock upside down after about six months of ownership.
I once forgot to disengaged the lockout during a technical downhill - lockout stopped working for the duration of the ride but all was back to normal the following day?? This happended during the Cape Epic.
Right seal leaks oil. This started very soon (about the 5th ride) and was limited to being moist and attracting a ring of dirt around the stanchion. After about 14 months of riding (after completing the Cape Epic) the oil sometimes formed a visible streak on the right fork leg. This stopped after 2 months. The oil leak has now reverted to the intensity described at the start of this paragraph. I just ignore it during the ride and clean it after riding.
Of all the brands I have used, I will recommend this shock more than RS and Manitou. Marz is the only brand that makes real fit and forget shocks, but is less sexier than a fox. Stiffness is better than the Marz and plushness is better.
Bottom line: Buy if you have the $$ and is prepared to pamper the fork, otherwise just fit a Marz.

The fork is actually the Fox Float 100FL. Same fork but disc brake specific. Only available on the Epic bikes. I have ridden with this fork for 1 year and have put right at 1,000 miles on it. Have had no problems to date. Fork is very reliable, stable, and virtually maintenance free. Nice ride, even when locked out. I've locked it out maybe a dozen times. In July I toof the bike to Colorado to do some riding in the mountains. Fork did a great job!

Glad I made the purchase. This fork is much stiffer than the Manitou it replaced, I am able to carry more speed through the rocks and the fork isn't deflecting all over. I ride x-country,with some fairly technical sections(rock gardens and rocky and rooty climbs). So far the fork has been great. Very smooth stroke, feels like a coil-over, but I have the ability to easily change the spring rate. I have only used the lockout a couple of times, as long as I am paying attention I don't move the other adjusters, but I can see how you could easily move them if not careful. In May '04 the shock cracked at the junction of the axel/discbrake mount on the disc brake side of the fork. It cracked all the way through... not sure exactly when it happened but when I noticed that my one side of my shock had separated from the wheel there was no specific event to precipitate it. I did do some double jumping, but nothing really serious... The fact that I'm 5'7 and weigh 150 pounds, and dont do any extreme riding (mostly XC) makes me wonder about the durability of the shock. That being said, I'm almost positive Fox is going to replace the shock for free, and I absolutely love the ride of the fork so I will be keeping the new Float 100RL (or 100RLC depending on what they give me) on my stumpy very very happily...
Bottom Line: I would not recommend this fork to anyone who is going to do any type of Freeriding or DH, but then again if thats what youre going to do you wouldn't even be considering this fork in the first place. Definitely XC only!

In addition, it seems that both legs miss now the original lubrification.

It is so smooth, so stiff, and has a mountain of adjustments, it even has a lockout feature. In my opinion this is the perfect trail fork. I've tested SID's and they feel like spagetti noodles with a crown attached, they may be light, but they suffer in all other areas. Get a Fox fork, they don't dissapoint.

The amount of adjustability makes the fork able to adapt to your riding style and taste seamlessly. Fox has hit the gold again this year with this product. The stroke is like a baby's bottom and the damping quality is very noticable just by push testing the fork. Air is held very well and no leaks have occured so far.
