from Orange County, CA Date Reviewed: December 23, 2007 | | Favorite Trail: | Rock-It, Chutes, Luge | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Rigidity, great steering, light weight, adjustability, resale value (if you'd ever give it up). | | Weaknesses: | None, unless you're on a tight budget | | Similar Products Used: | 2003 Fox Talas RLC; 2007 RockShox Reba Team, Marzocchi LT, misc others demoed. | | Bike Setup: | 2008 Yeti 575, Talas RLC fork, RP23 shock, XT/XTR/X-0 drivetrain, etc. | | Bottom Line: | The Fox Talas has a great reputation for a reason: It is an outstanding fork for XC/All-mountain use. I'm sensitive to fork flex, but the structure of the Talas is very rigid, making for precise steering & braking control. The 3-way height adjustment (100-120-140mm) is a big improvement over the previous micro-adjustments. The RLC version is extra tunable: I still don't have it fully dialed, plus it's still getting broken in, so I won't comment much on the ride quality except to say that I'm not complaining!
There are cheaper options, but none that are a better price/performance value. 5 chilis all the way around. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
