It was a very difficult fork to set up for proper travel, and I finally had to return it to the shop for assistance.
The fork failed (inadequate travel) after six months of riding. My shop sent it back for repair and it took over four months, and Marzzocchi sent a bill for over $200 for the repair indicating "inadequate maintenance." Six months riding and inadequate maintenance? Yet their one inch thick mamual on the fork makes not one reference to maintenance. The shop felt so bad for me thay picked-up the tab for the repair (The guys at the Down Tube are the best!)
After maybe, two months more of riding the same problem occured in the shock and I turned it into a lamp.

The cartridge that adjusts the dampening and provides lockout (TST)has failed 3 times in 6 months. According to the factory it needs to be serviced more often than I expected. I am ammending my review as promised. Do you think anybody from the bike store has even heard back once from Marzocchi. They promised to call, said they were waiting on a part from Italy. Is Italy on the the other freaking side of the known universe. We are still sitting on two useless remotes. Hey Brian at Marzocchi, if you could get off your lazy A** and call us, and perhaps deal with your problems, then it would be alot easier to review your forks for the great forks that they are. Would I tell someone else to ever buy Marzocchi, not even!!!! Your customer service sucks, we spent over $1600, and this is how you treat paying customers. I am so IRKED, you have no idea. I heard raves about this fork from other riders, and when my last fork blew on a 24 hr, I decided on this fork. Both my boyfriend and I both were in need of a top end fork. We visited the Marzocchi website numerous times. On the website it says the remote is optional on the sl, and the others, but on the race it does not say optional. So we assumed the remotes came with the fork. Got the forks, no remotes. The manager at the store ordered us remotes from Marzocchi and offset the cost. However when the remotes came they wont even work with our forks. Read the review below. I guess it was the same production run that the remote will not work. He called Marzocchi, no calls returned. The manager at the store has bent over backwards to serve us, but it seems he is not getting the same customer service from Marzocchi. After the owner of the store called on Wed, they didnt even have an idea of when the parts needed to make the remote work would even be in, let alone shipped. This has been an extremely frustrating experience for us. We were told how great customer service is from Marzocchi and we have not seen it at all. Why the hell did they ever run a production line that wouldnt work with there own product???. I race 24 hour events, and I want a fork that I can lock out. If we ever get this sorted out with Marzocchi I will amend my review, but right now I am extremely disappointed with the customer service of a brand new fork, not one but two. And at $800, its not like we bought cheap stuff. Also for that exspensive of a fork I didnt expect cheap decals. Also on the website it shows a white fork, the ones we got were silver, can they get anything straight over there????? Otherwise the fork itslef feels awesome as would probably any fork in this price range. Provides control and feels rigid. | | Weaknesses: | Odd adjustment of right hand POS air chamber (removal of TST-cap necessary) and a small design flaw (IMHO) on the left hand side. The fork is hollow for about 10cm at the dropouts. This most certainly results in a weaker fork. | | Similar Products Used: | Manitou Pro C, Rockshox Judy DH, Rond-Magura Quake C | | Bike Setup: | Klein Pulse Pro, Ritchey WCS cockpit, SRAM/Shimano driveline. Tuning can be a bit of a hassle. Support from Marzocchi is non-exsistent!!!

Air vavle on the cap on the TST side does not line up, have to remove entire cap, takes a bit more time. Decals for an expensive such as this is odd. Weight is a weakness but worth the trade off in performance. MOST OR ALL, the TST remote is not compatible. | | Similar Products Used: | Manitous, rockshox | | Bike Setup: | BMC team hardtail, with Sram X.O, raceface, Avid Juicy and XT. | | Bottom Line: | I was sort of reluctant to buy this fork, I was leaning towards an R7 platnium or Reba Race/Team/World Cup, but after my girlfriend and I were told such rave reviews about this fork we both decided to get one.
First of all looking at the Marzocchi website, and catalog I downloaded, it lists the TST remote as a standard feature, and specifically states that it's optional for the Marathon SL and XC. Get the forks and no remote, call Marzocchi and argued and finally they broke down and sold us remotes for at a small discount. $150 retail each on top of the price of the fork. If we knew it was going to be that much, even with the small discount, we both would of gotten fox's.
Then we get the remotes, and guess what, they won't even mount. Marzocchi told us that we should of bought the remotes when we bought the forks, but when ordering, there is no option to get that kind of fork, plus we assumed we got the remote in the first place. You order the fork and the remote separate. Marzocchi, actually Brian ext.124, said that the distributor must of still had the early models of the Race that use the shimano cassete tool. Said he get back to me, been two weeks now.
Looking at the one review below. It's going to cost me more to get the TST remote to work, and I'll also be without it for awhile. I would just settle for a better top cap that is easier to grip to lock out the fork.
My buyers remorse is offset a bit buy how good this fork soaks up the trail, for an air fork. My Manitou Mars was air and wasn't this plush. The weight wasn't an issue with me because I wanted something smooth and plush. I can't give this fork a great review because just the hassle and cost to get the fork the way I want it has really angered me. I would of given this a better review if I got the fork that was compatible with the remote. What ever happened to service in this industry, now we get the old used car salesmen attitude.
Point is it's Marzocchi's fault for listing the fork the way they did on the site, and there fault they made the remotes incompatible. Not sure if I should keep them or if they'll refund the remotes. Anyone wants them, got 2, they are all yours, for what I paid. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

It was kind of strange having 4 air chambers to play with, but I set it up to the recommended air pressure and it is very nice! Tracks extremely well, even when hammering out of the saddle going through rock gardens and soaks up bumps quite nicely for being such a short travel fork. Plush and compliant and the TST works. | | Weaknesses: | I bought the fork with the intention of using the TST handlebar remote but I had to wait a month for the kit. After getting it tried to install it and the diagrams of the fork in the instructions were different then my fork. Come to find out after calling Marzocchi Tech Support that some of the 2006 Marathon Races (early production run) are different and need to have the whole TST cartridge removed and a new top cap installed. The cap however is not available for 3-4 weeks and I will need to ship the fork to Marzocchi and then pay for the installation. Needless to say, I am very upset. I purchased the fork based on the information provided by Marzocchi. Had I known of what was going to be involved I would have bought a Reba World Cup instead. I race SS endurance races and bobbing on the flats is unacceptable. I am disappointed in Marzocchi and hope that they can fix this problem.
