I purchased this as an upgrade to the Shimano Alivio that came stock on the bike, and it has certainly been an upgrade. I'm not an ace bike mechanic, but I watched a few videos on you tube and swapped the component myself. It required very little tuning and shifts sharp and precise and has done so all season long. I actually rode the bike much harder and more often this year than in years past, but this component has held up very well. I matched the derailleur with XT shifters and a compatible Shimano cassette as recommended.
I also upgraded my wheels, front suspension, handlebar, grips and seat. I've told people all year long that the drivetrain upgrade was the most notable difference out of everything.
